Updating your Name Server Records
Once you are logged in, and you have clicked on 'edit' next to the domain name that you wish to manage. the following screen will appear. This screen asks you to enter your primary and secondary name server records. Your name server records control your website and email, and if you have an existing website or email accounts for your domain name, do not change your name server records or else your website and email will stop working. Please read the following instructions carefully.
Choice 1 If you have bought web hosting or email hosting from us, the name server records will be as the diagram above. The records above are automatically set up for you, if you buy a domain name through us but if you have transferred a domain name, you will need to change these name server records to the above if you wish to use our email hosting or web hosting services.
If you have bought a hosting account, and your hosting company allows you to use their name servers, then you simply need to enter the ns records on this screen and click update and your domain name will point to your hosting company's name servers, and your hosting company's name servers will then direct your domain name to your website files and mail server.
Most hosting accounts include two name server records and you will be given your name server records after you sign up for a hosting account. You will recognize the name server records because it will start with NS or word followed by a number and dot then a domain name. The format will look like ns3.webcontrolcenter.com or brigh.twoplums.com.au and the name server record will always correspond to an ip address.
The vast majority of domain names are pointed to the name servers of the hosting company. If you assign your authoritative name server records to your hosting company, you will not need and cannot use advanced dns management or domain forwarding.
Choice 2:
If you do not have a hosting account , then you will need domain name forwarding or advanced dns services to point your domain name to your website files. You will need to choose to activate domain name forwarding or advanced dns services. Generally, you would choose domain name forwarding if you are directing your domain name to another URL, and you would choose advanced dns services if you were directing your domain name to a static ip. If you choose either of these services, please ensure that the name server records are as follows.
