Why websites fail - Failure in Web Design

Why websites fail?

The website market in Australia and world wide is dominated by advertising companies and graphic artists. With existing client bases, advertising companies used web design as a way of making more money. Unfortunately, many did not learn to master good web design principles or to comply with basic web accessability guidelines, usability testing or provide web copy writing.

This has led to the rise of glossy, badly written websites with poor navigation. Static HTML brochure websites are rarely visited because of poor indexing and ranking by search engines and even more unlikely to be revisited because information is too general or out of date.

Most of these web designers do not take into consideration usability, cost of bandwidth for graphics, cost of maintaining a website both in time and money and the benefits of integrating a website to business functions. Most are badly coded and as a consequence many websites simply can't be found in search engine results.

Many corporate websites also fail basic usability and accessibility testing.

Websites require a combination of good layout, design, copywriting, link navigation and programming. Hosting on quality servers, properly configured and maintained in secure data centres.
