How does DIY website software work?
This software is a hosted software. It is a browser based software and you do not need to download of install software. You simply login with a username and password and create your site using the online software. You do need a computer and internet connection to use these online tools to build your own website. It is a simple software to use but users should be aware, that when uploading their own images, to compress images to a reasonable size for the internet. If you upload a large image, it will take a long time for someone to download your webpage - and they probably won't wait around to see it!! We recommend keeping images to less than 40K. Resizing your image, is not the same as compressing an image. Typically, when you take a photo with your digital camera, the size of the photo will be a few megabytes or 1000K or more. You want to edit your photos and logos to around 40K or less, so that your webpage loads in a reasonable time.
Why do I need web hosting?
In order to view webpages, website files need to be uploaded to a web server. Webservers are housed in secure datacentres and are designed to allow many people to access your website at one time.
Can I change my website content whenever I want?
After you have published your initial website, you can continue to login to the DIY website software, make changes and republish your site. The DIY website software is included free with most of our web hosting plans (except business web hosting). It is a hosted application.
Do I need to know the ftp details to publish my DIY website ?
If you buy a hosting plan from Passion Computing, we will set up your account, so when you are ready to publish your website, all you need to do is click 'publish' and your website will be published to your hosting account and live on the internet.
